There are various ranks within the Sea Cadets, known as rates they are gained when the cadet achieves the necessary standards as listed below.

Junior Cadets
No Badge Of Rate
JUNIOR SEA CADET 2ND CLASS

New entry into the Junior Section
Minimum age 10 Yrs.

 


JUNIOR SEA CADET 1ST CLASS
(1 blue star badge)

Mminimum of 6 months service as a Junior Sea Cadet
Completion of Unit (Red Section) core Module

 

As above, but two,
worn one each side of the brassard

 


LEADING JUNIOR SEA CADET
(2 Blue star badges)

12 months service as Junior Sea Cadet 1st Class
Completion of Waterborne (Blue Section) core Module

 

Cadets
No Badge Of Rate
New Entry Minimum Age 12 Years
 

CADET (Cdt)
One Red Star

Minimum Of 6 Weeks As New Entry Or Direct Entry From Junior Sea Cadet.
Satisfactory Completion Of Part One Training Approved By CO.
 


ORDINARY CADET (OC)
Two Red Stars

Satisfactory Completion Of Part One Training.
Have Obtained Minimum Of 8 Points As Result Of Qualifications Earned From Part Two Subjects.
Approved By CO.
 


ABLE CADET (AC)
Three Red Stars

Satisfactory Completion Of Part One Training.

Increased Points To A Minimum Of 15 As A Result Of Qualifications Earned From Part Two Subjects.
Have Qualified 3rd Class In Seamanship.
Have Gained At Least 3 Points In A Single Boating Profficiency.
Approved By CO.
 


LEADING CADET (LC)
One Red Fouled Anchor

Minimum Age 15

Satisfactory Completion Of Part One Training.

Either Examination Board Or rates Course And District Or Area Interview.

Have Increased To A Minimum Of 30 Points.
Passed SCC Swim Test.

Achieve One Of Following
Pulling Coxswain
RYA Level 2 Dinghy In A Crewed Dinghy
RYA Level 2 Power
YSS Stage 3 In A Crewed Dinghy
SCC Offshore Watch Leader

Either Qualified 2Nd Class In Seamanship Or Qualified 3Rd Class In A Second Specialisation.

Qualified For 3 Points In A Single Boating Profficiency In Addition To The Requirement Above.

PETTY OFFICER CADET (PO)
Crossed Fouled Anchor Red Or Gold

Minimum Age 16.

Satisfactory Completion Of Part One Training

Minimum 6 Months As Leading Cadet.

Qualify For 1St Class In At Least 1 Specialisation.

Qualify For One Of The Following.

Pulling Instructor
Level 2 Sailing With 2 Modules
BCU 3 Star
Or Power Level 2 With Planing Endorsement

OR

Qualify For Master Coxswain + Qualify For 2nd Class In At Least One Specialisation.

Successful Completion Of Either Area Exam Board Or Petty Officer Cadets rates Course And Area Interview.
