Recently found, and now scanned and presented for all to see Operation Partisan was a task undertaken by TS Tiger in 1961.

This is a large flash slide show (10mb) and may take a while to load but I think it is worth the wait - Operation Partisan
The file can be paused so that you can read it all and study the pictures or just leave it to run as a slide show.

If you have any memories of this, please get in touch with us as we would love to find out more.

More Cadet's diaries added

C64 Adventure & Military Training Course
Recently a cadet from TS Tiger took part in this course. Course C64 is designed to give older cadets (15-18 years of age) a different, exciting and challenging experience.  Amongst its aims are to give an introduction to the sort of activities entailed in a life in the armed forces and emergency services.  This does not mean the course is only intended for those considering a career in the military or emergency services.  Any cadet with a sense of adventure will benefit.

While she was there LC Linz Fitzpatrick kept a log and took many photos. To see her experiences and share in the sense of fun and excitement had whilst on the course click here

TS Tiger is proud to have The HMS TIGER Association as it's sponsor for all website costs.

C20 HMS Tiger AssociationThe HMS Tiger Association is a group of ex-servicemen who served aboard the last Tiger.

HMS Tiger C20 was a Tiger class light cruiser built by the John Brown shipyard at Clydebank and commissioned in 1959. 166m long and with a displacement of 11,560 tons she was capable of 31.5 knots. She carried a crew of 760 and was armed with four × 6'' and six × 3" guns.

HMS Tiger before the conversionIn 1966 she hosted the so called "Tiger" talks between the British Prime Minister Harold Wilson, and the then Prime Minister of Rhodesia Ian Smith.

During the mid 60's she was refitted as a helicopter and commando cruiser and recommissioned in 1972. After the conversion the displacement rose to12,080 tons and her crew increased to 880. Her armaments were now two × 6'', two × 3'', Two × Seacat quad missile launchers and she also carried 4 × Sea King helicopters.

Tiger took part in the 1977 Silver Jubilee Fleet Review in celebration of Queen Elizabeth II.
Unfortunately the Tiger became an expensive ship to operate and maintain and this coupled with the defense cuts which resulted in manpower shortages meant that in 1978 Tiger was placed in reserve, subsequently being placed on the disposal list in 1979.
She was scrapped in Spain starting in October 1986.

Many thanks to The Tiger Association for this kind gesture.

17th February - Cadet 150 Launch
Cadet 150 LogoStaff and Cadets spent a day at the Highcross Shopping Centre in Leicester, recruiting and supporting the launch of the Cadet 150 Celebrations.

Cadet150 honours the role the Cadet Forces play in assisting young people towards responsible adulthood through learning new skills and developing self-confidence, and recognises the contribution the young people themselves make to their local communities.

This year marks 150 years since the Cadet movement first started, when the Cadet Corps was formed to help bolster the country’s defence numbers following heavy losses in the Crimean War. Today’s Cadet Forces are quite different organisations, having evolved into unique voluntary youth organisations, offering young people opportunities to develop themselves, try new adventures and activities, and learn key lessons in citizenship and the importance of society. Through Cadet150, this year promises to be an exciting one for the wider cadet family. The 131,000 current cadets will be taking part in events across the country and overseas, showcasing their movement and what it’s all about. The 25,000 Adult Volunteers will also be recognised through Cadet150. Without the support of these dedicated people the Cadet Forces could not operate. Click here to learn more about Cadet 150
