It is with a deep sense of regret that we announce the closing of the
Marine Cadet Detachment at T.S.Tiger.
After being on a 'notice of closure' for some months and despite recruitment drives we were unable to recruit enough cadets to keep the detachment open. Our hope is that we can recruit in sufficient numbers and also get a committed compliment of staff so that we can reopen the MCD at a later date.
Meanwhile we would like to thank every one who supported the MCD and also thanks to Kev and Russ for trying their best to keep things running.

The Marine Cadet Detachment at Leicester Sea Cadet unit is one of 13 Marine Cadet detachments in eastern area. The Marine Cadets are taught in line with the training of the Royal Marines. This includes drill, fieldcraft, skill at arms, corps history, self disciplne and loyalty. Along side this training they are also taught aspects of the sea cadet corps including sea cadet history, boating, seamanship, first aid and unit organisation.

These pictures were taken during our open day in June, the heavens quite literally opened.

There are many camps and courses during the year.
The main events are easter camp, summer camp, headquarters field inspection, expedition training, and promotion camps
Marine cadets are taken into the detachment from 12 years 9 months to 18 years of age, we take male and female cadets. All marine cadets on their first camp go through exercise first step (this is usually at easter camp). On this exercise they are taught the basics of living in camp with other cadets, living in the field, how to cook, build a shelter, camoflague and concealment and basic campcraft.

The Globe And Laurel
The word Gibraltar commemorates the battle of the famous rock in 1704.
The Laurels which surround the Globe were granted for the gallantry displayed in the capture of Belle Isle in 1761.
"Per Mare Per Terram" - ( By Sea By Land ) This is the Corps motto and was first worn in 1775 at the Battle of Bunker Hill.
The Lion and Crown - was awarded in 1802 by King George II thus making the Marines a
" Royal " Regiment.
The Globe was granted by King George IV in 1827 to commemorate the Corps battle honours around the world.
