2nd December - Area 5-a-side football at St Ives
The Senior Girls football team travelled to St Ives in Cambridgeshire for the Area 5 A Side Competition.
The team was made up of Leading Cadet Ruth Rollings (Team Captain), Leading Cadet Lindsey Fitzpatrick, Cadet Sam Clayton, Cadet Jodie Randall, New Entry Ferys Warren and New Entry Jazmyn Crewe.
The girls made their way through their heats winning all their games only conceding a single goal. Then it was onto the semi final where a chink in their defence appeared when Lowestoft & Norwich scored the first goal. Leicester then picked themselves up and scored twice to win the game. The only downside was Leading Cadet Fitzpatrick sustaining a dislocated thumb.(ouch!)
It was then onto the final where they met Hull and Filey of North & East Yorkshire, a team they had beaten 2 – 0 in the heats.
This game saw Leicester go up a gear with a winning score of 5 – 1!
With this victory the girls won the Area Competition, having scored 16 goals and conceding 3. They are now through to the National Competition which is due to be held on 22-24 February 2008 at HMS Collingwood, Portsmouth.
GO TIGERRRRRRR!
Linz said after the match
"
It was a really good day, we had put so much time and effort into training and by doing this we came out very successful winning all of our matches and winning the final 5-1".
Well done to all the team and many thanks to the coach (and chauffeur) PO Allan Stoneman.
