15th June - Parade Night, The River Rescue
For the cadets in the Powerboat, Thursday's parade night bought with it an unexpected twist when the cadets were called on for a river rescue.

A (cruiser) motor boat became stuck on a tricky sandbank which is one of the main local water hazards. Fortunately, the cadets were on hand to assist as LC Smith and AC Pedley along with their crew had to perform in a way that cannot be tested in training.
The Viking was manoeuvred to lay off of the motor boat as they briefed each other on what would happen, they then set about the rescue.

"We positioned ourselves off of their starboard quarter and we were passed their line. AC Pedley secured it to the Viking and we began to drive astern. It was stuck well and after around half a minute with the engine on full astern they were finally free."
