TS Tiger
70th Anniversary Open Day

16th June 2007

TS Tiger threw open its doors to welcome ex cadets from the past to help us celebrate the 70th Anniversary of Sea Cadets in Leicester

The day started with Colours, followed by the official opening by Mr Michael Mayes a cadet from the 40's

Mr Michael Mayes gave a speech about his time as a Cadet and how it helped him map out his future and stood him in good stead for life.

Able Cadet Ruth Rollings then gave a speech telling us about life as a Cadet of today and thanked the Staff and UMC for their efforts in keeping the unit alive.

There then followed a musical arms display by the Cadets.

Cadet Coleman shows some ex Cadets some of the moves from the display

The Junior Cadets welcomed everyone to TS Tiger using semaphore . . . .

. . . . watched by ex cadets who were ready to spot any mistakes, (provided they could remember how to do it themselves!).

Rory the Leicester Tigers mascot became an honourary cadet when he paid us a surprise visit

and was a hit with both visitors

and Cadets.

Enjoying the sunshine . . . .

and catching up on old times over a pint . . .

. . . . and a sandwich

Our Chairman Nick inspects the Marines's weapon which is a L98A1 Cadet GP Rifle, under the watchful eyes of Kev and Russ the Marine Instructors.

The weapon has obviously been disabled and is used for drill purposes.

Leading Cadet Lindsey Fitzpatrick took the GNTC Dinghy 'Fearless' onto the water following its relaunch

Whereupon the heavens opened with a torrential downpour.

Unfortunately this meant the cancellation of the planned boat trips and pulling experience.

While most ran for shelter the Marine Detachment tried their best to carry on in true Marines fashion . . . .

however, some did find shelter.

In hides . . .

. . . or under bridges

Whilst the rest just came back for a cuppa and to catch up with old mates

Two ex GNTC Cadets who met again at the openday and told us a tale or two about the good times they'd had !!

Ex Marine Cadet Lou Sartorel now OCMCD at Slough Sea Cadets (TS Lion) chats with our president Mr Neil Nicol who is ex Marine staff at TS Tiger

Obviously there was more water in the boat than there was out of it.
Able Cadet Ruth Rollings, Coxswain of the ASC still managed a smile.

Having dried out, the Marines continued with their planned activity.
